Our name: “Palatia” refers to a geographical feature on the island of Naxos, in the Aegean Sea off of the coast of Greece. There, on the ‘Islet of Palatia’, stands the portara, the immense white granite doorway of a temple built for Apollo. Construction was believed to have begun around 530 B.C.  The portara stands today, and is a popular tourist site on Naxos.
